Mykonos Island

Mykonos is one of the most frequented tourist destinations in Greece and one of the most cosmopolitan islands in the world.
It is famous for its golden sandy beaches and sheltered coves, its sunny blue sky and vivid sunsets and its religious and archaeological sites.

Mykonos is renowned for a vibrant nightlife culture, with international DJs playing in its stylish bars and clubs. Its natural beauty accompanied by the white blue architecture and tiny pebble-stone shopping streets around the town make it a beautiful place to explore.

Chora is the capital of Mykonos.

Chora is one of the nicest towns of the Greek Islands.Walking through the small paths of Mykonos, you may be lost!

All the houses are bright white with wooden windows painted in the deep colour of the Aegean Sea. Their balconies are full of flowers. They sparkle under the summer sunlight!

The visitors will come across many small chapels. The most famous is Paraportiani. It is the most photographed monument on the island. It is an inspired architectural complex of five churches.

Walking from there, you will find Little Venice. The image that unfolds before you is like nowhere else in Greece. It is one of the pretiest corners of the island, the neighbourhood with its houses right in the sea. There are many bars, cafes, and restaurants you may sit down to drink a nice cocktail and enjoy the sunset and Windmills. Windmills constitute one of the symbols of the island. From wherever you are, you can see them.

As the sun will start to slowly descent into the Aegean Sea, Mykonos Town will start preparing for its transformation into the wild partying, bar hopping, all night clubbing setting.

Petros the Pelican
It was in 1958 when a small and weak pelican fell seawards from his flock. Nowadays, Petros is an inseparable part of life on the harbor, the island's mascot. It wanders through all the neighborhoods but prefers the harbour and Alefkandra (close to Little Venice).

Ano Mera is another village of Mykonos.
It is 8 km away from the Chora and it is connected with transportation. There are two monasteries. The most important is the monastery of Panagia Tourliani, right under the square. After your visit to the Monastery make your next stop at one of the traditional tavernas in the square. Not far from there in the north is the Monastery of Paliokastro.

The island of Delos
Delos is one of the most important mythological, historical and archaeological sites in Greece. Delos had a position as a holy sanctuary for a millennium before Olympian Greek Mythology made it the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. This small island is covered with temples, mansions, markets, stadiums and shops. Boats from Mykonos arrive on the west coast of Delos Island, in the Commercial Harbor near the south end of the ruins. The island is small, only 1.2km wide and covering 5 sq km of barren, hilly landscape.

Mykonos has 4 museum. All of them are located at Chora.

The Archaeological Museum, located alongside the harbor, was built about 1900, mainly to house finds from the excavation of the “Pit of Purification” (dating from the 5th century B.C.) and the necropolis of Rhenia.Open 8:30 a.m to 3:00 p.m, daily except Monday and major public holidays. The Folklore Museum is located in an old, two-story, captain’s house in the Kastro of Mykonos town, a few meters distant from the Paraportiani church. Open from April to October 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. daily except Sundays. (tel.: +30 22890 – 22 591).

The Folklore Museum consists from the Agricultural Museum / Boni Windmill and Lena's House. The first one, located on the edge of the town at Apono Mili, is an outdoor museum, which presents the traditional Mykonian agricultural installation used for the production and processing of farm products. The museums centerpiece is the Boni Windmill, which is in full working order and may be visited from June to September daily, 4:00-8:00 p.m. (tel.: +30 22890 – 26 246) The second, near the Three Wells, is a charmingly preserved, authentic 19th century Mykonian middle-class dwelling, which is completely furnished and equipped with antique furniture and house utensils. Open evenings, except Sundays, from April to October, 6:30p.m. to 9:30p.m. (tel.: +30 22890 – 22 390).

The Aegean Maritime Museum is located by the Three Wells, next door to Lena’s House. This museum displays scale models of various rowing boats, sailing vessels and steam-powered ships which, in turn, from Prehistoric times until the present, have traversed the Aegean. The “EVANGELISTRIA”, a traditional sailing vessel belonging to the museum, is moored every summer in the old harbor where it may be boarded by interested visitors. Open, April to October, daily, 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and evenings from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m.. (tel.: +30 22890 – 22 700).

Beaches in Mykonos

Platis Yialos beach is the first stop: At about 4,5 km from the center of Mykonos town, a very popular beach on the south side of the island. This beach has restaurants, beach bars, and water sports facilities. Taxi boats can take you to all the other beaches like Paranga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Argari and Elia beach.

Psarou beach is next to Platis Yialos. It has golden sand with turquoise water. Psarou is a meeting point of celebrities.

Ornos is only 4 km from Chora. It is one of the most popular beaches of the island with many tranditional restaurant with delicious seafood and with beach bars for relaxation.

Elia beach has been awarded from the National Beach Association and from the Blue Flag Association as one of the cleanest beaches in Greece.
